The Engineering Ceramics Laboratory is a key laboratory of the university in Shandong Province during the “Ninth Five-Year Plan†and has passed the acceptance test. It is also one of the key laboratories of the liquid structure and genetics of the Ministry of Education. After the "10th Five-Year" strengthening construction, the laboratory has a relatively complete research method from powder processing, sintering preparation and performance testing, among which Nissan HIGH-MULTI-5000 multi-functional sintering furnace, Russian acoustic microscope and other equipment have reached International advanced level.
The director of the laboratory is Professor Sun Kangning.
There are 10 fixed personnel in the laboratory, including 3 doctoral supervisors, 3 professors, 5 associate professors and 2 experimenters. Among the teachers, there are 7 doctoral degree holders, 3 people enjoying special allowances from the State Council, and 1 young and middle-aged expert with outstanding contributions in Shandong Province. It has formed its own characteristics in ceramic matrix composites, bioceramics, high performance structural ceramics, microwave absorbing materials, ceramic coatings and so on.
Since 2001, the laboratory has won 6 national and provincial scientific research awards, among which “iron-aluminum intermetallic compound/aluminum ceramic composite material and its application†won the second prize of 2001 National Technology Invention. He has undertaken 2 national 863 programs, 5 national natural science funds, 3 projects of the National Defense Science and Technology Commission, more than 10 projects of the Ministry of Education and Shandong Science and Technology Project, more than 10 horizontal projects, and research funding of more than 8 million yuan. More than 200 papers have been published in important journals at home and abroad, including more than 60 articles in SCI and more than 150 articles in EI.
The laboratory pays special attention to the training of undergraduates. Undertook the teaching work of undergraduate majors in inorganic non-metallic materials engineering, and actively participated in the undergraduate science and technology innovation activities of the school, using the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Finance teaching experiment project "construction and practice of multidisciplinary knowledge penetration interface" construction fund of 1.6 million yuan Established a multi-disciplinary undergraduate science and technology innovation platform, and received a number of university students' science and technology innovation teams from the School of Materials, Mechanical Engineering, School of Stomatology and Chemistry and Chemical Engineering to participate in scientific research.

With the scientific and technological achievements represented by intermetallic compounds and ceramic matrix composite materials, it has successively promoted the application of multiple manufacturers and achieved economic benefits of more than 50 million yuan.
The laboratory insists on opening to the outside world and actively carries out academic exchanges. In recent years, three teachers in the laboratory have conducted cooperative research in Italy, South Korea, Hong Kong and other countries and regions.
