Definition: Standard tool for machining cylindrical and conical internal threads.

A tool for machining internal threads with grooves in the axial direction. Also called tapping. Generally used for general lathes, drills, and tapping machines, the cutting speed is slow. Spiral groove taps are mostly used for drilling blind holes in CNC machining centers. The machining speed is high, the precision is high, the chip evacuation is good, and the neutrality is good. The screw tap has a receiving slot in the front to process the through hole. Most of the taps provided by the current tool factory are coated taps, which greatly improve the service life and cutting performance of uncoated taps.

Machine and hand taps are standard taps that cut ordinary threads. China has traditionally referred to high-precision high-speed steel molar taps as machine taps and carbon tool steel or alloy tool steel hobbing (or incisor) taps as hand taps. In fact, the structure of the two are known as hand taps. The working principle is basically the same. In general, the tap consists of a working portion and a shank. The working part is divided into the cutting part and the calibration part. The former wears a cutting cone and takes on the cutting work. The latter uses the size and shape of the thread.

The tapping load of the tapped design is reasonable and the processing quality is high, but the manufacturing cost is also high. Trapezoidal thread taps are often designed with unequal diameters.

It is mainly used to process aluminum alloy, copper and other plastic materials, and also can process low carbon steel and stainless steel. The tap cone at the front of the tap is a tapered thread. In order to reduce the friction and reduce the extrusion force, the tap section is made into a polygon. Extrusion taps have a high strength and are particularly suitable for machining small diameter screw holes up to 6 mm in diameter. 4 Tooth taps: grinding one tooth in the direction of the helix of the cutter tooth, thus increasing the thickness of the chip, which is helpful for chip breaking and chip removal. It is used to process stainless steel and other workpieces. 5 Draining chip taps: The chips are discharged from the inner hole of the tap and are used to process large size screw holes. 6 Automatically shrink the tap: After tapping, the tap teeth can be automatically retracted inwards for quick exit. 7 broaching tap: It is a broach with knife teeth distributed on the helix. It is often used for machining trapezoidal and square thread. 8 Carbide Taps: Mainly used for machining cast iron and non-ferrous metals, with high cutting efficiency and tool life.
