The sand deposit is produced by weathering (oxidation) of the primary ore. For example, the oxidized sand ore is naturally weathered, and the structure of ilmenite (FeO · TiO2) is destroyed by oxidation. Among them, Fe2+ is oxidized to Fe3+, and some iron has been oxidized. Loss, the TiO2 content is enriched. This kind of sand is characterized by high TiO2 content and low iron content. The iron in the ore is mainly trivalent, the natural grain size is coarse, the structure is loose, the density is small (4.13g/cm3), and the surface area of ​​the particles is large. The content of TiO2 in ilmenite ore is about 50%.


China is a country rich in titanium resources, and titanium resources are mainly ilmenite. At present, the main mining and use is sand ore, but the primary ore with the use of resources has also been exploited.


Among the proven reserves of titanium resources in China, 93% are primary minerals, 4.9% are sand ore ilmenites, and 1.9% are native rutile mines. The primary ore is mainly distributed in the Panxi area of ​​Sichuan. Titanium iron ore is mainly distributed in Guangdong, Guangxi and Yunnan. Rutile is mainly distributed in Hubei and Shanxi.
