Total successfully produces polymer-grade propylene with methanol

The total semi-industrial demonstration device for MTO+OCP integrated process built by Total using UOP technology was officially launched in the second quarter of 2009. After a long period of operation and commissioning, it has now produced polymer-grade propylene from methanol and made a qualified polypropylene plastic. Monolithic particles, this is the first time in the world to use methanol to make plastic in an integrated device. According to data published by Total at the first coal-to-olefins seminar last year, the investment in the MTO+OCP integrated process demonstration plant in Fallujah amounted to 45 million euros, which combines the MTO of the methanol-to-olefins process developed by UOP/Hidelu and Total. The olefin cracking process OCP, jointly developed with UOP, is based on this and the downstream polymerization demonstration unit, making the integrated plant the world's first.
