The Astronomical Research Group of the US-French Cooperation announced that they have discovered a diamond planet in Cancer that rotates around a sun-like star, twice the size of the Earth, and it takes only 18 hours to revolve around the star, compared to the Earth around the Sun. It takes 365 days to rotate one week. At present, scientists named it "55 Cancri E", which is 8 times the mass of the earth. Its surface temperature reaches 1648 degrees Celsius. Researchers at Yale University, published in the Journal of Astrophysics, claim that the surface of the planet may cover graphite and diamond instead of water and granite. The Diamond Planet was also discovered before, but 55 Cancri E was the first diamond planet to be found running around a sun-like star and published in great detail.
The researchers said that this is the first time we have seen a rock world that is fundamentally different from Earth. The discovery of carbon-rich planets means that the chemical composition of rocky planets deep in the interstellar may not need to resemble the Earth. However, the road to the 55 Cancri E from the Earth is very long, about 40 light years, or 2.3 trillion miles.
