Panasonic exhibited the company's SiC power components at "PCIM Europe 2016" as well as trials of power converters for battery systems using modules based on the components. This is the first time to show the actual machine.
The prototype is a single-phase bi-directional DC-AC converter with 2kW class without cooler and 4kW class with belt cooler. It is assumed that the battery is connected to the DC side and the AC side is connected to the power grid. It is characterized by achieving small size and light weight by improving the circuit topology and control method, and improving the efficiency by adopting SiC MOSFETs (refer to this site). The volume of the prototype is 11 cubic decimeters, which is about 1/3 of the original Panasonic product. The highest efficiency is 96.5%.
Panasonic's SiC MOSFET "DioMOS" features a built-in diode that eliminates the need for an external diode. Therefore, the size can be reduced, and no diode wiring is required when packaged in the power module, so that the inductance component can be reduced. The company has also developed a new module using DioMOS, which has been used in trial products.
Panasonic will develop 3-phase products for applications of 10kW or more. Currently, we are advancing development and will try to produce a three-phase bi-directional inverter with an output of 5 kW. The narrator said: "We hope to achieve 25kW in 2016." (Reporter: Ujinjin)
