We all know that in SolidWorks, sheet metal parts can be expanded directly to the sheet metal part using the "Expand" command to get the shape, size and other parameters. But what about surfaces? How to expand? How can I get the shape and size in the expanded state? This is often one of the biggest headaches for engineers. For example, as shown in Figure 1, to label the segmented surface, you must know the shape and size of the surface to be able to label production, how to expand the surface, how to get the expansion parameters? So can you build this surface into a sheet metal for expansion? If you can create a sheet metal, things are much simpler.

Sheet metal parts are generally more regular in shape, and commands such as "base flange" are used most frequently. The “stake out bend†can often design some complex sheet metal parts. The use of the loft bend in the sheet metal part is the sketch of the two open loops connected by the loft. We can use the sketch to construct some complex curves. So you can use this label surface reference to construct some curves, transform this surface into a sheet metal part, and then expand it to get the expansion size.
First, you can use the equidistant surface in the surface function and insert a new part to make the surface a separate file (Figure 2) to facilitate the design. Then create a 3D sketch to convert the upper and lower edges of the surface to the 3D curve (Figure 3).
